Macadamia Ukadiche Modak

Its Ganesh Chaturthi and Modak is believed to be one of the favorite sweets of Lord Ganesha. Ukadiche Modak or steamed Modak is specially made on the first day of Ganesh Chaturthi to welcome Lord GaneshaIt is made of rice flour shells filled with sweet mixture of jaggery and coconut. Here we are adding macadamia nuts in the filling which the flavor of Modak. So, let’s make these gooey sweet dumplings and celebrate the festival.

INGREDIENTS

For dough 

  • 1 cup rice flour 
  • 1 cup water 
  • ½ cup milk 
  • Pinch of salt 
  • ½ tsp ghee 

For stuffing 

  • ½ cup desiccated coconut 
  • 25 gms macadamia nuts 
  • ½ cup jaggery powder  
  • 2 tbsp ghee 
  • ½ tsp Cardamom powder 
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Add water, milk, ghee and salt in a pan and let it come to a boil. 
  2. Turn off the flame, add rice flour and cover it with lid for 5 minutes. 
  3. Transfer to a bowl, mix it well so there are no lumps and knead into a soft dough. 
  4. Dough should neither be too thick nor too thin. 
  5. Next for stuffing, dry roast macadamia nuts and grind them coarsely. 
  6. In a pan add ghee, jaggery powder, coconut, grinded macadamia nuts and mix well. 
  7. Let it cook for 2-3 mins on low flame then add cardamom powder. The stuffing is ready. 
  8. To make Modak, grease the Modak mould, close it properly and put the dough ball inside by pressing it gently on the sides of mould. 
  9. Fill the macadamia stuffing mixture. 
  10. Seal Modak with dough. 
  11. Gently take them out and keep covered until you make all the Modaks. 
  12. When ready, put few strands of saffron on top of Modak, 
  13. Steam them for 12-15 mins. 
  14. Serve warm with ghee and enjoy!
